A thigh-high riding boot with cup-shaped wide top, square toes and higher heels than the jackboot. Made from stiff leather; fourth quarter of 17th century to the early 18th. The heels are riding heels, it is a cavalry boot, made of stiffer leather so it does not fall about the ankles but remains thigh high. Th Marlborough boots can be unfolded or the tops can fold into the "bucket" part just above the knee
